Going into yesterday's game against the Cowboys, I realized the Titans would need a lot of things to bounce their way in order to win the game (for example, the Cowboys plane landing in, say, Peoria instead of Nashville). So, I didn't go into the game expecting the Titans to win, but what I hoped for was a chance with the media spotlight on Music City since "America's Team" was in town, that we'd at least make it respectable.
And for a long time, it looked like we would. Sure, we were going to lose but at least we might get some positive publicity saying, "Vince Young started the game and we saw a preview of the future with Young and LenDale White in the game."
And then Albert Haynesworth went and destroyed any chance of that happening. Instead of the maybe a positive story or two about the Titans rebuidling, we're stuck in the same mire we have been all year. The Titans can't buy any good publicity because players on this team act like thugs. Oh sure it's maybe one or two isolated cases, but that doesn't matter when it comes to the overall perception of things. Every national media outlet is talking about the Titans and not in a good way. The footage of Albert stomping on the Dallas player is leading off every sportscast in the country right now.
Gee, Albert--thanks for bringing the spotlight to Music City's team. Honestly, had Albert been a few more inches down, he could have taken out the other guy's eye! The guy had to have 30 stitches from this!
I'm disguisted and disappointed by it. I'm disguisted that Albert doesn't have enough cool to step away and maybe take out whatever aggression he has on the field in a way that could help his team. Imagine channeling that anger into blocking better, going after the QB for a sack or firing up your teammates to play better on defense. Go out and get a good block or make the guy look foolish in the next series. Make a football play to "get back" at the guy. But oh no, you had to act like a street thug instead, embrassing yourself, your team and the entire city of Nashville. Good job Albert.
Thanks for helping me find out that just when I thought the Titans couldn't disappoint me more that they could.
UPDATE: Things could get uglier for Haynesworth. According to this AOL blogger,
there is precedent for Haynesworth to be sued by Andre Guourd.
