Friday evening, I actually left the house and taped D
octor Who (that sound you hear is Barry passing out in shock) and joined some friends from church for dinner at Miller's Grocery.
Miller's Grocery used to be a small-town grocery store that has been converted into a restuarant. They feature what I'd generally refer to as "good Southern" cooking, which means lots of stuff that is fried, incredibly bad for you and no where in the same zip code as the Adkins diet. That said, it was all wonderful. And that was even before we got to desert.
(OK, sorry...I've got to stop that train of thought as I'm gaining weight just thinking about the deserts they had.)
The food was great and while it didn't have much of that ambience stuff, it did have a live band playing in the corner. They played old country staples like "Let the Circle Be Unbroken." It was just delightful and while it lacked ambience, it did have a great atmosphere. It's kind of that atmosphere that Cracker Barrel is going for but it's not quite as corporate. Oh yeah and the food is better.
The restuarant is located out in Christiana. I was amused to find
they have a web site and you can make reservations on the weekend. And believe me, you want to make a reservation as there was a line outside the entire time I was there. I know I'll be going back again to sample some more good Southern cooking. I also took some photos of the interior for you to check out. They're in my Flickr stream.
