- Congratulations to Peyton Manning and the Colts for finally getting the monkey of the Patriots off their backs. The clash of the titans was a decent game for about a half, but honestly it didn't have the same drama and intensity that Sunday night's Redskins vs Eagles game did. I bet ABC was hoping that the Patriots/Colts game would go down to the wire like the Eagles/Redskins did the night before, but the Colts put this one away early. Which was kind of good for all of us who have to do silly things like get up and go to work the next day....
- So, Saturday night I watched the end of the Florida vs Vanderbilt game. First of all, I have to take my UT hat off to Vandy for fighting back from 14 points down in the 4th quarter to tie the game and sent it to OT. Great effort and entertaining as all get out--espeically since I hate Florida and would enjoy watching them lose. And I will agree with what a lot of Vandy fans probably feel--the penalty for excessive celebration was questionable. How is a player supposed to react to scoring a touchdown to tie a game? A little emotion and excitement is what college football is supposed to be about, isn't it? That said, I do wonder if Vanderbilt would have gone for the two-point conversion had they not been called for this. Sure, Bobby Johnson says now, "Oh yes, we were going for two" when the decision was taken out of his hands by poor officiating. But would he have gone for it had there not been a penalty? It's easy to play "shoulda, woulda, coulda" the Monday after the game on the local call-in shows. It's one of those things that if they'd gone for it and got it, he looks like Dick Vermeil on Sunday with the Chiefs. If they go for it and miss out, then well, he's the goat.
- Along those lines, I'm suddenly hearing this conspiracy theory that there's a top six and a bottom six in the SEC for getting calls. Ummmmm, oooooooooohkay then. I can see where Vandy got the short end of the stick on some calls Saturday night and I do know the use of replay was a bit questionable at times in that game. But then to hear Kentucky fans come out of the woodwork and say they got hosed on some calls against Auburn? I had to laugh. OK, so y'all don't get the calls in football..but you do get a lot of calls in basketball, which let's face it--y'all play better than just about everyone in the SEC anyway. So, karma will even things out here in a few weeks. Of this I have no doubt.
- Please, please, please make T.O. go away. I am so sick of hearing about it. He's a petulant child and any team that takes him is a bunch of idiots.
