Hail to the Redskins! Hail victory! Braves on the warpath! Fight for old D.C.!Well, at least one of my three teams rewarded my loyalty this weekend and won their game. Last night's Washington vs Philly game was a great, hard-fought, classic good ol' days of the NFC East battle with the Redskins coming out on top 17-10. I enjoyed the game and got pretty excited when our defense picked off McNabb on fourth and four from the six to seal the win with just over a minute left in the game.
Sure, I'd love to have seen the Redskins hammer the Eagles like they did the 49ers a few weeks ago, but that just wasn't going to happen. But our offense made enough plays to win and our defense once again came up huge to give us a great win. It keeps us in the hunt for the NFC East title and it puts us half a game up on the hated Cowboys for second place since we beat them on Monday night a few weeks ago.
And let me give ESPN's Sunday night crew a word of thanks. Yes, I know that T.O. is a big story and I do know that some of your broadcast had to be devoted to discussing this whole petrid situation. That said, I was happy to hear that most of the coverage was about the game being played and not speculating on what might have happened had T.O. not acted like a petulant child and been suspended. Of course, you'd not know this from the highlights that SportsCenter showed not even five minutes after the game ended when suddenly it was all about T.O.
As I sit back and think about this whole T.O. thing, I have to wonder--is the media part of this? I mean, all off-season and this season, any time T.O. spouts off with some inane nonsense, the media seizes upon it like a pack of dogs on a three-legged cat. If they'd not follow T.O. to his home and interview him there or not give him 18 hours a week of interview time, maybe his stupidity would stay just with him or in the lockerroom. But instead, we give such press and publicity to him and let's face it--the man is a media-whore. He wants to be the center of attention all the time and he's not happy unless he is. Well, he must be one happy camper right now is all I can say.
Please, let's just ignore T.O. He's an idiot and thankfully he doesn't play for my team. He's got a lot of talent. It's just too bad that with great talent doesn't come a bit of class.
