One of the four questions on 104.5 the Zone's Friday afternoon "Four Questions" segement was--do you think there will be zero, one, two or three wins for the Nashville area teams playing this weekend?
Now, I didn't call in to offer my opinion but as I contemplated it, I thought that I'd easily take a loss by Vandy and MTSU if it meant the Titans could sneak up and win their opening game in Pittsburgh. One and two for the weekend would have been OK with me...again, had that one been the Titans.
But never in my wildest dreams did I think that the teams would go one and two and the one winner would be a 2 -0 Vanderbilt. Nothing against Vandy, but I wasn't going to be sold on their chances until they went out and proved it on the field. Winning at Wake Forrest is one thing, but on the road at Arkansas is another. (It still does NOT mean you go to Neyland and beat Tennessee to end the season....so don't run to leave that comment for me, please!)
I've already shared my thoughts about my beloved Titans falling today....nothing new to add there.
But driving home last night from a BBQ at my cousin's house, I was listening to the postgame show for the MTSU vs North Texas game. The first caller was a bit frustrated at losing to long-time rival North Texas, espeically in a year when MTSU seemed to have a lot of things in their favor to win the conference and go to a bowl game . The caller was upset and calling for the firing of Andy McCollum, MTSU's head coach. Now, I can feel this guy's pain--I know what it's like to have a rival just have your number year after year (Florida under Spurrier, Alabama for too long in the late 80s and early 90s). But I have to admit part of me took heart in the fact that there are those fans for every team out there....
