The first weekend of college football is in the books and, for the most part, it was pretty entertaining. (Well, not counting last night's dull as dishwater FSU vs Miami game. Brent Musberger (my motto: I can't say the word Clausen right!) kept trying to say how this was an old-fashioned football game between two defensive teams and it was old school. No, sorry Brent, it was a game between two teams that are in a rebuilding mode and having to play a huge game the first game of the year instead of a creampuff to work out the wrinkles.)
Ah, at long last football is back.
But yet, as I sit back and try to gear up for the second big weekend of college football, I'm struck by the same feeling as I get every year--the hurry up and wait feeling.
Every year, my beloved Vols start out with a game against some cream-puff that is supposed to be a cakewalk (this year was an exception, I guess) and to get all juiced up for Florida. And then...a long two week break. With nothing. Nada, zip, zilch, no UT football. And sure there are other games on this weekend and I will watch as I'm interested but none that set me all a-tingle like the Vols playing. It's this cruel joke every year. It's kind of like dating--you meet a great woman and everything is great. You have a great first date and then find out she's leaving the country for a couple of weeks and you won't get to see her. And you're all excited at having met this great person but still a bit disappointing cause you can't wait to spend more time with her.
OK, maybe I need to get out more...
