I've tuned in for some of the on-going coverage of hurricane Dennis at various points during the weekend. I hope that if anyone here is in the path of the this thing, that you read this after you get back to your home or somewhere safe and please know that my thoughts and prayers are with you.
Watching the coverage, I've been struck by the same thought I always am during a hurricane. I know there is always a group of people who choose to ride out the storm and not evacuate. And while I understand that this is their right to choose to do so, I still can't quite figure out WHY you'd do it.
Of course, the people who I really feel sorry for in the path of destruction are the police officers, fire fighters and other such emergency responders who have to stay in the area to keep order, enforce curfews and respond to emergency calls. As I sit and watch Dennis slowly come onto land and hit the southeast, my thoughts and prayers are especially drawn to them.
