After two years of embarassing losses in the Peach Bowl, I was glad to see the Vol's fully prepared in every aspect of the game today as we kicked off the New Year in style,
routing Texas A&M 38-7. Great game on all sides of the ball for the Vols, though I am sure that there are some who will complain that we let the Aggies score in the fourth quarter when it was pretty much out of reach for them. Yeah, a shut out is good, but we still got a huge win. That, coupled with Georgia's win over Wisconsin, helped pull the SEC's record to 2-2 in bowl games this year.
Watching the game on FOX, I was underwhelmed. First of all, the governor of Texas is a jackass. During the coin toss he shakes hands and encourages the Texas A&M players but can't be sportsman enough to shake the Vols' hands. Second of all, was it just me or was there three quarters of praise heaped on the Texas A&M team by the FOX commentators? I remember now why I hate going to the Cotton Bowl...FOX's NFL coverage is decent but their college coverage stinks. And these bozos are going to be covering the BCS in a couple of years?!? Say it ain't so! (Or at least beef up your announcing talent and not just some idiot who is stopping over on his way to a regional NFL game!) And you know what FOX--the Vols have tradition as well. It may not be anything quite as stupid as the 12th man or waving a damn towel, but we have some as well. Try to maybe, just maybe focus a bit on the good things and the tradition that are UT football. I swear, if I'd seen one more damn cutaway of the Texas A&M crowd in uniforms swinging those stupid towels, I was going to throw up.
And the officiating--once again, it stunk.
But let's step back and consider what is most important here.
Tennessee won. And won big. It was nice to not be on the edge of my seat because we were routing a team instead of the other way round that it's been the past two bowl games.
How many more days until spring practice?!?
