Hollywood's summer is off to a cool start
Apparently,
Troy didn't make nearly as much money as it should have over the weekend--this followed on the heels of
Van Helsing not making nearly enough money on its opening weekend. Reading this article, there are a lot of reasons thrown out as to why this occurred--maybe it was the Lakers/Spurs game (as if anyone cares about the NBA Playoffs!) or maybe it was the long running time of
Troy and the R-rating. Now, I haven't seen either film but I've got to wonder if maybe the reason neither made a lot of money doesn't come down to a simple economic reason--maybe there are just a lot of people like me who can't see every movie that comes out and are saving our hard earned movie going dollars for some of the other summer movies that are on the way. (Can't wait to see
Shrek 2 and
Spider-Man 2) And another part of it may be word of mouth--I've heard nothing but reports that
VanHelsing is just two hours of your life you will never have back and while there have been some good reviews for
Troy, they haven't been enough to really push it into a category of a Must See Movie. It look pretty good, but it definitely is on the rental category list since Nashville apparently does not have the dollar movie theaters.
Man, I miss the dollar movies.
