I like funny songs.
No secret that I like the collected works of Ray Stevens, "Weird Al" Yankovich and, if you want to go back a bit, Spike Jones and Stan Freberg.
I love a good, fun novelty song and I will freely admit that Star Trekkin' is one of the greatest novelty songs out there...("We come in peace. Shoot to kill! Shoot to kill!)
There's something about a great, funny song that can bring a smile to your face on a less than stellar day and help make a good day even better.
Recently, I discovered (thanks to Michael and Evo on
Slice of SciFi) the works of Jonathan Coulton. Coulton's songs are great--as Barry said in a
post, he's like "Weird Al" only a better singer. Two of my favorites by Coulton are
The Future Soon and
Skullcrusher Mountain. The lyric in Skullcrusher Mountain of "Isn't it enough to know I ruined a perfectly good pony making a gift for you" cracks me up every time I hear it.
So, surf over and listen to the songs. I bet they'll brighten up your day a bit.
And it's songs like these two and many others by other artists that make me happy.
